How to Stop / Disable the Automatic Update temporarily on Windows 10 using Settings App

From these settings, you can kindly skip an update or pause the System Update for 7 days and also postpone the update up to 35 days.

Here are the following steps to Stop the Automatic update for a specified date:

Step 1: First, Go to the Start Menu and then choose Settings.

Step 2:  Then select the Update & Security.

Step 3:  And now you can see the Pause updates for 7 more days option, select that one. Now your device won’t get updated while updates are paused. The update will resume after 7 days.

Step 4:  If you want to postpone the update on your PC for a maximum of 35 days. For that,

Step 5: On the same windows update page, the Advanced options appear at the bottom, tap that one.

Step 6: Make sure to check the Update option and the Update notification is turned off.

Step 7: After that, you’ll see the “Pause updates” option at the bottom down right. It will pause the update maximum of up to 35 days.

Step 8: In that, a drop-down date list will be shown, in that, you can select the date as per your wish to postpone the System update.

After completing all the processes, automatic updates will be disabled for a specified date. Once the pause limit reaches, the automatic update will be activated again.

How to Stop/disable the Automatic Updates in Edit group Policy

Edit Group Policy:  

Edit group policy is an administration tool and it helps to configure the automatic settings to disable and enable the Automatic Updates from Settings.

This group policy features run only on windows 10, It will alert you to a new update without automatically installing it.

Step 1: In the search bar, type Edit group policy and click that one.

Step 2: Now you will see the local group policy editor screen. Tap the Computer Configuration and select the Administrative Templates.

Step 3: After that, In the drop-down menu double click the Windows Components option.

Step 4: Now, you might scroll down the screen and find the Windows Update, and double click on it.

Step 5: Then, tap on Configure Automatic Updates option. Now you can change the automatic update option to disable it.

Once after the completion of all the following steps, windows 10 will permanently disable the automatic updates option. Now you can check the windows update will be disabled on your device through Step: 5, Configure Automatic update to be disabled.

If you want to enable the automatic update option on your device, then follow the same steps, and in step No: 5, select the option not configured on the configure settings.

How to Stop/Disable the Automatic Updates using Registry

Registry:

Tips: This will cause some problems to your installation if you don’t do it correctly.

Step 1: In the search bar, type Regedit or press windows keys + R and click Ok.

Step 2: Now that the Registry Editor will open, on the left-hand side double click the HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE.

Step 3: Then double click the Software option and scroll down the page and select the Policies option.

Step 4: Now, you will see the Windows key and right-click, click on the New sub-menu, and tap on the Key option.

Step 5: On the New key, type the Windows Update and press enter then again right-click the tap on the select New and key option.

Step 6: Name the new key as AU, next right-click on blank space and then select New on the sub-menu choose the DWORD(32-bit value).

Step 7: After that, name the new key as NOAUTOUPDATE and press Enter.

Step 8: Double click the new key and change the value to 1 to disable and click Ok.

How to Stop/Disable the Automatic Update using service

On Windows 10, services.msc will help to disable the manual, automatic option to the Automatic update in windows.

Step 1: Press Windows Keys + R key and type as Services.msc and press the Ok button.

Step 3: Scroll down the screen and find Windows Update from the service list.

Step 4: And double click the Windows Update option, change the startup type as  Disable and also change the stopped in-service status.

Step 5: Click the Apply and Ok button.

How to quickly Stop the windows update service using Command Prompt

Using this Command Prompt is the easiest and quickest way to stop the windows update service.

Note: Open the Command Prompt by using the Run as Administrator.

Follow these steps to stop the windows update service.

Step 1: Open the Search bar, and type as Command Prompt.

Step 2: Click the Run as Administrator on the right side of the Command Prompt.

Step 4: Now, you will get the Command Prompt screen.

Step 5: Then type the terminal command below to disable the Automatic update service: sc config wuauserv start= disabled

Step 6: Then if you want to stop the Automatic update service, follow this below command: Net stop wuauserv
