Meaning
A coughing fit is a sudden, severe, and often uncontrollable episode of coughing that can last for several minutes and leave you exhausted. It is medically known as paroxysmal coughing and can be a symptom of various conditions, including infections like whooping cough (pertussis), asthma, pneumonia, COPD, or allergies. These fits are often violent, can cause difficulty breathing, and may be accompanied by vomiting or a "whooping" sound when you gasp for air between coughs.
