Expression
wet rales
Meaning

Wet rales, now more commonly called coarse crackles, are abnormal, bubbling, gurgling, or rattling lung sounds. A doctor can hear these sounds through a stethoscope when a person breathes in, and sometimes while breathing out. They indicate the presence of excessive fluid, mucus, or secretions in the larger airways.
