Stoning to death, also known as lapidation, is a method of capital punishment where a person is killed by throwing stones at them. In ancient Israel, it was the standard method of executing those found guilty of specific crimes, and is also prescribed in some versions of Islamic law. The practice is rooted in ancient Near Eastern traditions.
